Police were called to reports of an altercation in Adelaide Road at the UCL Academy just before 12.55pm yesterday (March 4) and a boy was found with stab injuries.
He was treated at scene before being taken to hospital where his condition was assessed as non-life threatening.
Councillor Richard Olszewski, leader of Camden Council, has confirmed that the student is still in hospital.
He said: “Our thoughts right now are with the affected pupil and their family and friends. The pupil is being treated in hospital and our best wishes are with them for their recovery. I’d like to thank the emergency services for their response.
“We are working closely with UCL Academy following the incident to offer support and assistance, including to the children and families affected. We are also supporting the school assist the police with their investigation.”
The UCL Academy was forced to shut shortly after the knife attack, under police instruction.
However students will be returning to the school today (March 5), in a staggered and phased return.
Two 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of GBH and possession of an offensive weapon.
They have been taken into custody.
Andrea Pomphrey, the principal of the school said in a letter to parents: “This is an extremely rare occurrence and I understand that this would have been deeply concerning and difficult for families.
“A level 1 student suffered an injury today and was subsequently treated in hospital after the school called the emergency services.
“Thankfully the student is recovering well and our thoughts are with them, their family and friends.”
