It’s no secret that us Brits love a good chippy tea and London is not in short supply of local fish and chip shops.
The National Fish and Chip Awards which is currently in its 37th year, celebrates the best of the UK’s fish and chip industry, with categories ranging from best takeaway and best newcomer to those acknowledging environmental practices and community involvement.
This year Brockley’s Rock in south east London won the award for ‘Community Engagement’, a new award which commends shops for work within the local community.
The business won the award after previously being shortlisted for ‘Takeaway of the Year’ in November last year, with the award going to Yarm Road Fish and Chips in County Durham.

This combination of good food, attentive service and a welcoming atmosphere makes Brockley’s Rock a favourite among both locals and visitors.
Kyriacos Karoulla from Brockley’s Rock said: “What an honour to have Brockley’s Rock win the award for community engagement by the NFFF!
“After 30 years in the trade, I’ve learned that it’s the people – my fantastic team, our loyal customers, and the wonderful local community – who make it all so rewarding.
“We’re so proud to be part of this neighbourhood, and this recognition means the world to us.
“A huge thank you to the NFFF for shining a light on the importance of community spirit.
“Here’s to fish, chips, and bringing people together!“

Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, said: “The bar for the National Fish & Chip Awards is set higher each year across the criteria the competitors are evaluated against, and our new titleholders have put everything into elevating their menus, sharpening their skills and developing their expertise.
“Each winner hits the mark on all these fronts and their hard work is achieving national attention.
“On behalf of the NFFF, I’d like to say a big ‘congratulations’ and ‘thank you’ to these businesses for being shining examples of greatness in the fish and chip industry.”
