The Metropolitan Police were called at 5.45am on March 2 with reports of the blaze at a home in Stanstead Road.
Officers were dispatched to the scene, where a man in his 40s was located and arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to danger life.
He was taken to hospital where he remains with police at this stage.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the London Fire Brigade and Met.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 05:45hrs on Sunday, 2 March to reports of a fire at a house in Stanstead Road in Catford.
“A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to danger life and taken to hospital where he remains with officers.
“There were no reports of any injuries. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing with the London Fire Brigade.”
