They lent a hand to plant 18 young trees and 540 saplings to create a hedge around the Longstone Avenue Open Space in Willesden.
The project aims to add some shade and create wildlife habitats to transform the Church End and Roundwood ‘green corridor’ into “more sustainable urban living”, according to Brent Council.
“Many people came out to help plant the trees,” the council’s cabinet member for climate action Cllr Jake Rubin said. “Planting trees creates green spaces for our future generations.”
The planting by 60 volunteers including children was organised by Trees for Cities environment group with cash from the council, which aims to plant 1,100 new trees and saplings by the summer.
