Recent figures published by BTP show that Romford, Hornchurch, Gidea Park and Elm Park stations all recorded less crime between February 2024 and January 2025 than during the same period a year earlier.
For Gidea Park and Elm Park, crime incidents dropped by half or more.
Meanwhile, Upminster and Harold Wood stations saw an increase in crime – with the number of incidents recorded at Upminster Bridge station more than doubling since last year.
As Havering’s busiest station, Romford recorded the most crime – a total of 42 incidents since February 2024.
This is down from 53 between February 2023 and January 2024, and included 12 public order offences and 10 violent and sexual offences.
Upminster station saw the second highest number of crimes in the past year at 19.
This is up by eight since the previous year, and includes six vehicle crimes.
At Harold Wood station there were 18 crimes committed between February 2024 and January 2025 – up three since the previous year.
Seven of these crimes were bicycle thefts, while another four were categorised as vehicle theft.
Elm Park station saw the sharpest drop in crime – from 17 incidents to seven – but there were four recorded incidents of violent and sexual crime.

Meanwhile, Gidea Park station recorded no violent and sexual offences since February 2024, with its nine incidents made up of thefts and public order offences.
Crime incidents at Upminster Bridge station more than doubled in a year – going from five in 2023-2024 to 11 in 2024-2025.
Four of these crimes were criminal damage or arson, while a further three were violent and sexual offences.
Emerson Park station saw only one incident in the past year – coming under the criminal damage and arson category.
There was no British Transport Police data for Rainham station.
