The Recorder reported earlier this month that Ardleigh Green Junior School had plans approved by Havering Council to refurbish the pool on its site.
The pool will see a new roof installed, with a new heating system and changing rooms.
The school stopped using the facilities, which date back to the 1950s, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pool plans were granted conditional approval, but with caveats concerning hours of operation.
How the refurbished pool would look (Image: KSA Property) Havering Council deemed that use of the facilities should be limited to “between the hours of 8am to 6pm on Mondays to Fridays”.
The most recent application by the school has sought to vary this condition, to allow for the pool to be used on the weekends and bank holidays between 8am and 6pm.
Andrew Frater, chief operating officer of Empower Learning Academy Trust, submitted a letter alongside the application.
He wrote: “We have been granted planning permission to install a glass cover on the roof of our pool to enable year-round use, which we greatly appreciate.
“However, the new restriction on weekend and bank holiday usage poses challenges for our educational and extracurricular programmes.
“The ability to use the pool during these times is crucial for our planned nurture lessons, which are designed to support our weaker swimmers in developing their skills and confidence in a more focused and less crowded environment.
“These classes will consist of no more than four students at a time, ensuring personalised attention and safety.

“The weekend and bank holiday sessions are particularly important for students who may not have the opportunity to attend additional lessons during the regular school week due to various commitments.”
The school hopes that if approved, the adjustment will enable them to continue to offer “valuable educational opportunities” to students whilst maximising the “full potential” of the pool.
A decision is due to be made by April 16.
