The incident happened in Walton Green near Lodge Lane at around 6.30am today (February 24).
Officers were called to the scene, however, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
His death is being treated as “unexpected but non-suspicious”.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called after a man in his 40s was found unconscious in Walton Green, New Addington, around 06:30hrs on Monday, 24 February.
“He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The death is being treated as unexpected but non-suspicious.”
