Anthony Christian, then aged 33, was jailed for 14 years in 2013 for rape.
The 18-year-old victim was staying at a hostel in Balham when Christian knocked on her door and demanded sex just after 2am.
After the attack he warned her not to tell anybody and then returned to his partner’s room.
The victim was later taken to hospital after taking an overdose, as a result of her ordeal.
Old Bailey Judge Gerald Gordon described Christian as a “dangerous offender” after he was convicted of rape at trial.
It has now been revealed that Christian died in May 2022 at the age of 44.
Prior to his death he had complex medical history of pancreatitis (a condition where the pancreas is inflamed) and ulcerative colitis (a potentially serious condition causing inflammation of the lower end of the digestive system).
He had previously been released on licence in 2019 but was recalled after he was charged with other sexual offences.
The prisons ombudsman was critical of some elements of Christian’s care whilst he was in prison.
In September 2021 Christian was temporarily transferred to HMP Wandsworth while he was attending court.
A prison ombudsman report states he was allocated a cell was that was in poor condition, which caused him stress and anxiety.
Christian’s mum expressed concerns that his health declined during his time at HMP Wandsworth.
The ombudsman found that no handover report was made when Christian was moved from HMP Littlehey to HMP Wandsworth.
