Firefighters were called to Venner Road last Tuesday (February 18) at 5.54am to reports of a blaze in a first floor flat.
At the time, a man was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.
However, the London Fire Brigade has stated today (February 24) that the man died days later.
A small part of the property was damaged after the incident was resolved by 7.16am.
Four fire engines form Beckenham, Forest Hill, West Norwood and Bromley fire stations were at the scene.
The brigade says that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
