Halifax is closing its Brentwood branch on September 10, Lloyds Banking Group announced today.
It it one of 61 Halifax branches earmarked for closure across the UK as the company – which also owns Lloyds and Bank of Scotland – plans to cut costs and move further towards online banking.
Halifax said that customers who use the Brentwood branch are “already banking in other ways”, and that transactions over the counter have more than halved since 2019.
A total of 407 customers regularly use this branch each month, with most personal customers aged between 55 and 74.
Halifax said: “Before we close any branch, we look at how our customers are managing their money and using the branch.
“Most customers are now using our mobile banking app, Internet Banking or calling us instead, which means they are using branches much less.
“Because of this, we’ll be closing our Brentwood branch.”

Lloyds Banking Group is also shutting 61 Lloyds sites, including the Hornchurch branch – which is set for closure on September 11.
Elsewhere in London, Lloyds branches in Walthamstow, Tooting and Southall, and Halifax branches in Clapham Junction, Bexleyheath and Fulham are all going.
The banking group offered the Lloyds branch, which is also on the High Street, as an alternative to the Brentwood Halifax branch.
It also mentioned other services nearby to replace those currently provided at the Brentwood branch, including the Post Office in the Baytree Centre and the cash machine at the Lloyds branch.
