The Standard reported that two south London rappers, Krept and Konan, along with Kaysor Ali, will bring Saveways, a new supermarket, to 102 Beddington Lane next week.
The supermarket will specialise in world foods to specifically serve the needs of black, Asian and ethnic communities.
Krept and Konan told the Standard: “Our vision for Saveways is more than a market
“We wanted to bring together under one roof everything the Black, Asian, and ethnic communities in South London need.
“We wanted to offer more than just groceries – we sought to provide a diverse range of world foods.
“We believe that high-quality, diverse food should never be a luxury.
“We also focused on creating a space that’s clean, convenient, and welcoming to everyone who walks through our doors.”
Krept and Konan, also known as Casyo Johnson and Karl Wilson, were born and raised in Gipsy Hill and Thornton Heath.
They took the opportunity to be involved with the new supermarket in their hometown, hoping to better serve the diverse population of Croydon.
The store will specialise in world foods and halal produce.
It will be fully equipped with halal meat and poultry counters, fresh and frozen “exotic” fish, and a fresh bakery selection.
There will also be fresh fruit and vegetables, tinned food, a wider range of children and frozen foods from all over the planet.
