The force is committed to promoting road safety and reducing the number of fatal collisions on the county’s roads in 2025.
This is part of the Vision Zero campaign, which aims to have zero road deaths by 2040 or sooner.
The roads policing unit, a team of officers dedicated to road safety, patrol the roads each day to ensure they are safe, to keep traffic moving, and to identify those involved in the criminal use of roads.
Head of roads policing, Adam Pipe, said: “Every year, thousands of lives are lost due to road collisions.
“By prioritising road safety, we can significantly reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries, ensuring that more people return home safely to their families.
“Some collisions result in severe injuries that can have long-lasting effects on individuals and their families, so it’s important to us to work with partners to ensure road safety.
“Safety is as simple as ABC… Always Be Careful.”
Essex Police are part of the Safer Essex Roads Partnership and together they are supporting Vision Zero, a road safety campaign to encourage responsible driving behaviour.
This includes obeying traffic laws, avoiding distractions, and not driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
Det Insp Mark Fraser of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, who investigates fatal collisions in Essex, added: “Bereaved families want to know why their loved ones died and it’s our job to support them throughout an emotionally difficult time for them.
“My officers’ professionalism sees them balance compassion for the victim’s family during what are ultimately very sensitive and sometimes lengthy and detailed investigations but balanced against the ultimate need for justice.
“Our investigation won’t bring their loved one back, but we can and will see any case where the law has been broken or poor and dangerous driving is a contributing factor to the fatal collision, be brought before the court.”
