Stephen Baughen, 43, was jailed for six years last Friday (January 10) after a judge concluded he was a danger to young girls.
A jury unanimously found Baughen guilty of sexual offences involving three different young girls after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court last year.
At his sentencing hearing prosecutor Jonathan Gold told the court that in August 2020 Baughen had sent sexual messages to the first 14-year-old girl on Instagram.
“The content of these messages was clearly sexual. He told her she was sexy and told her he would buy her sexy underwear,” Mr Gold said.
He later invited her shopping and told her he would “spoil her rotten”.
Around the same time, he was messaging another 14-year-old.
The court heard that over the course of several months he sent her sexual messages including a photo of an erect penis, presumed to be his.
Baughen was later arrested on suspicion of these offences but released under investigation.
In August 2023 he then went on to send sexual messages to another young girl, this time a 13-year-old.
“The young girl responded by calling him a nonce,” Mr Gold told the court.
Baughen denied all of the allegations against him, forcing the young girls to endure a crown court trial.
All three girls have suffered significant psychological harm as a result of Baughen’s actions, Mr Gold said.
One said she was unable to sleep out of fear and felt physically sick by what had happened.
Baughen remains in denial despite being convicted of attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 following grooming and multiple counts of engaging in sexual communication with children.
His barrister, Sapna Devi, said: “He doesn’t accept the conclusions of the jury but in difficult cases like this it takes time to accept the facts.”
Recorder Matthew Turner sentenced Baughen, formerly of Randolph Close, to six years in prison.
