Romford Police Station’s front counter will be closed from this Friday (January 17) until May 2025 for “essential maintenance and improvement works”.
The Metropolitan Police has not confirmed a specific reopening date.
The rest of the station will remain unaffected by the refurbishment, a spokesperson said, with officers still working at the location and the custody suite operating as normal.
During the refurb period, a temporary front counter will be open at Hornchurch Police Station – 24 hours a day, seven days a week – providing the same service to the public that the Romford front counter normally offers.

Charlie Routley, Acting Chief Inspector at Havering Police, called this temporary service in Hornchurch “vital”, as it means “our residents are not left to travel to a neighbouring borough”.
He said: “I would like to thank residents for their patience whilst these improvement works are taking place and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
“For those unable to attend Hornchurch Police Station you can still contact us via 101, or 999 in an emergency, as well as reporting incidents to us online at www.met.police.uk.”
To get from Romford Police Station, in Main Road, to Hornchurch Police Station, in Station Lane, use the 193 or 248 bus routes.
