Treal Care – which offers at-home care to the elderly and those with disabilities -has been judged as offering a ‘good’ service overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in November 2024.
The nearly month-long assessment was sparked by “concerns in relation to staffing”, and featured a visit to the office in North Street, Hornchurch, and an overview of whether the service was ‘safe’ and ‘well-led’.
However, the care watchdog ultimately found that there were “enough staff working at the service to support people safely” and that “systems were in place to recruit staff safely”.
In the CQC report published in December, inspectors deemed Treal Care to be ‘good’ in relation to its safety, with high scores in areas such as safeguarding and managing risks.
Many of the 37 people using the service at the time of inspection, and their relatives, told CQC that people were protected from abuse and felt safe.
One relative said: “I have no concerns about safety.
“Staff are always very approachable and kind and are very conscious about her limitations – especially regarding her pain when moving.”
Despite this, the report also details that “robust risk assessments were not in place” for service users with specific health conditions, such as diabetes and breathing issues.
Inspectors fed this back to Treal Care’s management, who said it would be addressed “immediately”, according to the report.
The service’s management was also rated as ‘good’ by CQC.

A “culture of continuous improvement” was found by the inspection team, which included evidence of frequent audits covering areas such as medicines, care plans and staffing.
According to the CQC report, staff are “positive” about the culture of Treal Care, and have access to training “regularly”.
On its website, Treal Care said: “At Treal Care we have a robust recruitment procedure to enhance careful selection of passionate and experienced care staff with ongoing training given to all, including office staff.
“The management of Treal Care is in the safe hands of a trained, tested and approved registered manager.”
Treal Care did not respond to the Recorder‘s request for comment.
