Mark Woodhall, of Hailsham Close, Harold Hill, was charged with five shoplifting offences between November 7 and November 12 – all of which took place in a shop in Farnham Road.
Appearing at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (January 9), the 44-year-old was found guilty and sentenced to 16 weeks custodial.
He has also been given a criminal behaviour order for two years – prohibiting from entering the area between Gooshays Drive, Hilldene Avenue, Chippenham Road, West Dene Drive and Dartfields.
The Metropolitan Police said Woodhall is a “prolific offender” who has been commiting crimes in the area “for a long time”.
Acting Chief Inspector Charlie Routley of Havering Safer Neighbourhoods said: “I welcome the sentence handed down to Mr Woodhall, following the hard work of the local Safer Neighbourhoods team.
“I am also pleased that we have secured a criminal behaviour order which will prevent him from offending in this area for the next two years.”
He added: “I hope this comes as a great relief to those shop workers and residents who have been impacted by Mr Woodhall’s offending in Farnham Road.
“Since the launch of Clear Hold Build in December 2023 we have seen a 35 per cent reduction of shoplifting offences committed in the Farnham Road area as well as a fall in reported anti-social behaviour.
“We are committed to making Harold Hill a safer place to live and work and we will continue to target offenders by utilising ancillary orders such as criminal behaviour orders to prevent them from offending in our community”.
