Army Cadets from north-west London and Middlesex were chosen to march alongside Cllr Tony Vourou through the City and West End, ending in Parliament Square with Big Ben firmly in their sights.
The cadets represented the borough with teal blue balloons — Barnet’s signature colour — and carried banners from Barnet Museum while giving ‘high-fives’ to children and even dancing with Boogie Storm from TV’s Britain’s Got Talent.
The day raised £2,000 for the mayor’s chosen charities, Macmillan Cancer Support and Barnet Age UK.
Half a million spectators lined the streets to watch the parade, which was also streamed live on television to an estimated 500 million viewers worldwide.
The 16 cadets from Barnet were just a tiny part of the parade of 10,000 marchers taking part from all over the UK, USA and Europe.
