Pictures from the scene show a bomb disposal robot which carried out a number of controlled explosions at around 1pm today (January 8).
Officers attended the scene and evacuated the surrounding area as they inspected the vehicle.
An office worker told the News Shopper: “We were evacuated, and there were rumours of a suspicious item.”
A control explosion was carried out by safely by specialist officers and the vehicle was confirmed to be non-suspicious.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed: “Road closures are in place in the vicinity of Regent Street and New Burlington Street while officers investigate a suspicious vehicle.
“Officers have carried out a number of controlled explosions as a precautionary measure.”
Images from the scene show the usually bustling street empty, with police cordons blocking access.
Footage shared online revealed that a significant police presence was sent to the scene.
This incident has now been fully stood down.
Police confirmed that the vehicle was found to be non-suspicious.
