Firefighters were recorded recovering a car as smoke was rising following it crashing with a lorry today (January 3) at 11.10am.
Emergency services blocked the busy road from Southend Arterial Road Eastbound, between junction 29 of the M25 near Romford and Basildon to A128 Tilbury Road.
Sophie Riches, a driver who was at the scene at the time, said that the driver was able to escape before the vehicle “started smoking”.
Ambulances then treated the man at the scene before he was taken to Basildon & Thurrock Hospital for treatment.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.10am to a road traffic collision on the A127 near West Horndon.
“An ambulance and ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene. An adult man was transported to Basildon & Thurrock Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
The road is now partially blocked, with delays ongoing.
