Emergency services were called to reports of a crash in South End Road just after 1.20pm yesterday (January 1).
A double decker bus had hit a tree outside The Garden Gate before veering into the pub garden and into the side of the venue.
The pub itself is said to have suffered no concerning damage, though patio furniture and planters were destroyed after taking on the brunt of the force.
A pub employee who wished not to be named told The Standard: “A bus drove into the tree and he (the driver) claimed his brakes had stopped working.
“There’s been some damage to the side of the pub but no one was hurt.
“It was quite a loud bang and everyone was scared but concerned for the driver. He was the only one on the bus.
“The pub is now operating as normal. We spoke to the police and the fire brigade and they weren’t concerned about structural damage.”
Pub staff described the poor weather on the day of the crash as a “saving grace”, as there were no customers outside on the patio when the double decker came off the road.
Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene and were stood down at 1.37pm.

A spokesperson for TfL said: “We are aware that a bus collided with a tree in South End Green on January 1 at 1pm.
“Thankfully, no one was injured, though we understand this may have been distressing for those involved and support is available for anyone affected by it.
“We are working with the bus operator, GoAhead London, to establish what happened.”
