Police attended Collier Row Road today (December 13) close to the Colley-Row Inn Wetherspoons.
The incident was reported at around 3.20pm by a concerned member of the public.
Officers, including armed police, quickly arrived at the scene and arrested a man on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Early indications suggest the weapon in question may have been an air rifle, but police are conducting further enquiries.
Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 15:20hrs on Friday, 13
“December after a member of the public called to report they’d seen a man in possession of a firearm close to a pub in Collier Row Road, Romford.
“Officers, including armed officers, attended the scene and the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm – he remains in custody.
“At this early stage it is believe the weapon was an air rifle but enquiries are ongoing to confirm this.
“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
