Schools have been ranked based on factors such as percentage of pupils staying in education or entering employment and progress made between key stage 2 and key stage 4 compared to national averages.
Havering’s top performing secondary school was Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School. This Catholic school in Upminster scored 0.71, which is “well above average” on the the ‘Progress 8’ indicator.
According to the report, the ‘Progress 8’ score shows how much progress pupils at a school made between the end of key stage 2 and the end of key stage 4, compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2.
Out of the 18 government-funded secondary schools in Havering, nine received ‘Progress 8’ scores that were above the national average.

A total of 99 per cent of students who left Sacred Heart of Mary’s in 2022 either stayed in education or entered employment after key stage 4 – the joint highest percentage in Havering alongside The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School.
The girls’ school also registered the highest ‘Attainment 8’ score, with 62.3.
This is based on how well pupils perform in up to eight qualifications including English and maths, three English Baccalaureate qualifications and three additional approved qualifications.
The Campion School in Hornchurch was the second highest ranked school, with a ‘Progress 8’ score of 0.6 and an ‘Attainment 8’ score of 55.3.
At the other end of the spectrum, Bower Park Academy in Romford was ranked lowest out of Havering’s government-funded secondary schools. The school received a “well below average” score of -0.54 in ‘Progress 8’.
The report claimed that “pupils here achieve over half a grade lower in each qualification on average, compared to similar pupils across the country”.
Bower Park also registered the lowest ‘Attainment 8’ score with 41.4.
Of Bower Park students, 88 per cent either stayed in education or entered employment after finishing key stage 4 in 2022.
