The incident happened in High Street, Barkingside just before 8.10am today (December 11).
Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended, however, the man was pronounced dead shortly after.
His next of kin is yet to be informed.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 08:09hrs on Wednesday, 11 December to a medical incident in High Street, Barkingside, Ilford.
“Officers joined colleagues from London Ambulance Service.
“Paramedics treated an elderly man but despite their best efforts, the man sadly died at the scene.
“His next of kin is yet to be informed.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
