Some people living near the proposed site in Northumberland Avenue, Aldersbrook, were told about the plans in a letter from Cornerstone, a telecommunications company set up by Vodafone and O2, last month.
A 20 metre high 5G and 4G tower with six antennae as well as two dishes would be built on land at the eastern end of the road, close to Wanstead Park.
The letter reads: “Cornerstone are in the process of progressing suitable sites in the Aldersbrook area for radio base stations that will deliver new and improved mobile broadband service to the local area.
“In due course we intend to submit a prior approval application to the local planning authority for this proposal, which we feel is the best solution to serve Vodafone customers locally.”
A planning application is yet to be submitted to Redbridge Council, but it is understood that Cornerstone are close to finalising the design reports.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “This site and design have been selected as they provide the technical requirements needed to improve digital connectivity whilst minimising any environmental and visual impact.”
