The Stow has seen a 38 per cent drop in incidents over the past year, following the rollout of the ‘Clear, Hold, Build’ initiative led by Harlow Council and Essex Police.
The scheme brought together residents, businesses and community groups to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour through a combination of high-visibility patrols, upgraded CCTV and extra security measures.
Joel Charles, Harlow Council’s cabinet member for public protection, said: “The Stow is not a place where ASB can go on unchecked.
“Members of the council’s community safety team, neighbourhood police officers, local business leaders and committed residents have all worked together to confront several issues that have impacted The Stow for some time.
“Although the 38% reduction in reported ASB cases is positive news, there is still more work to do.
“The priority now is to build an even greater sense of community in The Stow.
“A Christmas tree will be installed again in the main pedestrianised area to celebrate the festive season, and details about an outdoor urban themed art project will be announced soon.
“The steps taken to improve community safety in The Stow are working.
“It is the council’s intention to apply the insights gained from the targeted work in The Stow to reduce reported incidents of ASB in other parts of the town.”

Harlow Council has supported the project through improvements to housing, community facilities and public spaces, while also hosting events and activities designed to bring residents together and promote safety.
The Safe to Go Stow Community Hub will remain open for another year as further improvements are planned for the neighbourhood centre and nearby areas.
The next stage of the scheme will focus on empowering residents and community groups to take the lead in sustaining long-term improvements.
