The GF Team Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Centre officially opened its doors on Saturday, April 12, with a grand opening for the community.
Families, local business owners, police representatives and youth organisations gathered for the occasion, which was formally opened by the Mayor of Bromley, Dr David Jefferys, and his wife.
Vitor Chagas, owner of GF Team, said: “This place isn’t just about sport. It’s about giving young people structure, a place to feel supported, and a path to grow.
“Whether they go on to compete or just want to feel more confident in themselves, we’re here to help them on that journey.”
Simon Daniels, Vice President of 2BX, said: “This gym represents years of work and a real belief in what martial arts can offer people.
“Whether you’re aiming to compete or just want to build confidence, we want this to be a place where everyone feels welcome.”
The new centre on Ravenswood Crescent is the result of a partnership between GF Team, a world-renowned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy, and West Wickham boxing club 2BX, led by professional boxer Billy Jackson.
Together, they offer a wide range of classes, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, No-Gi grappling, and self-defence.
As part of the collaboration, members of both clubs will be able to train across disciplines.
GF Team students will have access to boxing at 2BX’s other sites, while 2BX boxers will be introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through the new centre.
Chris Gale, vice president of 2BX, said: “Most clubs would shy away from working together, fearing competition, but at 2BX, we focus solely on boxing.
“We’re thrilled to provide our clients with the diversity of training that GF Team offers, and we wish Vitor all the success as he moves forward.”
During the launch event, GF Team also announced an upcoming 12-hour charity rollathon, held in partnership with youth organisation Be Inspired.
The event will see participants sparring for 12 hours to raise funds for projects supporting young people in the borough.
Ben Eckett from Be Inspired said: “We are really pleased to be working with GF Team and look forward to helping more young people through our joint work together.”
The facility includes a professional-grade MMA cage, large matted area, changing rooms, showers, and an on-site shop selling martial arts gear.
It’s open seven days a week, with a mix of kids’, adults’ and women-only classes, as well as personalised 1-to-1 training.
The centre is now open seven days a week, offering classes for all ages and abilities.
