An application has been submitted to Brent Council for the installation of air handling units, condensers and ducting on the north side of the stadium, which would require some work to take place on the roof.
The plans, submitted by Wembley National Stadium Limited through planning consultants Lichfields, detail the installation of two air handling units, four condensers and associated ducting at level six of the stadium.
A continuous line of galvanised steel acoustic screening, powder-coated in silver or grey, is also proposed to help reduce noise from the new equipment.
The application states that the development falls under the de minimis exemption for biodiversity net gain because it takes place on an existing hard-surfaced area without habitat value.
As a result, no loss or gain of green space or nature-designated land is expected.
The project is estimated to cost up to £2 million.
Work is expected to start in February 2026 and be completed by May of the same year.
The planning documents also confirm that the works do not affect residential units or require changes to public access.
Mr Joseph Thompson of Lichfields, acting as the agent for the application, wrote in the planning documents: “The development and application site are located wholly on existing hard surfaced roof level areas which do not accommodate any onsite habitat.
“This proposal would not therefore impact or alter any habitat and the relevant development threshold has not been met.”
Brent Council has yet to make a decision on the application.
