The London Fire Brigade took the first of six calls reporting the fire in Vine Gardens at 2.48pm today (October 9).
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were dispatched to the scene from stations across Ilford, Dagenham and Plaistow.
The fire was located on half of the ground floor and part of the first floor.
A man was rescued from a first-floor window via an extension ladder, with a second man rescued from the ground floor by responders using breathing apparatus.

They were taken to hospital with two further people to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire was extinguished by 4.20pm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
