It is the latest update after NHS North East London (NHS NEL) revealed in February that the decision had been taken to close down Upminster Medical Centre in St Marys Lane.
The surgery will close to patients on August 29, just over a year after it was taken over by the East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT).
Upminster Medical Centre formed one of two sites covered in the contract arrangement alongside Rainham Health Centre in Upminster Road South.
The single, two-site arrangement had allowed patients to visit either site for care ,but the contract to run the Rainham surgery has now been voided by the provider after it decided “to refocus its primary care services”.
An NHS NEL spokesperson advised that the Upminster practice was being closed as it was “not fit for purpose”.
They said: “Unfortunately, shortly after the contract award, it was recognised that the Upminster premises were not fit for purpose and therefore the decision was made to close that site.”
Full details of the concerns surrounding the site have not been revealed.
In a new update from the integrated care board, NHS NEL has claimed it is now working to minimise the impact on patients and staff in the face of the closure.
A spokesperson said: “The planned closure of the Upminster Medical Centre site is due to take place on 29 August and we are working closely with colleagues at East London NHS Foundation Trust to minimise disruption for patients and staff, and ensure everything stays on schedule.
“In preparation for this, patients have begun registering with neighbouring practices in the Upminster and Cranham areas.

“However, those who choose to remain registered with the current practice will still be able to do so, but they will need to attend appointments at Rainham Health Centre from 30 August.
“In the meantime, we are keeping the practice’s patient participation group regularly updated and maintaining open lines of communication so patients can raise any questions or concerns.
“Our priority is ensuring that all patients at the practice have ongoing access to safe, high-quality primary care services.”
