According to the figures from the Department for Education, there were nine primary schools across the borough over capacity between 2023 and 2024.
Some of these are over by just one pupil, whilst others are above capacity by as many as 13.
Both Clockhouse Primary School in Clockhouse Lane, Collier Row, and Nelmes Primary School in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch were found to be the most over capacity.

In Wingletye Lane, Nelmes Primary School was also 13 students above capacity, with figures revealing it had 433 enrolled despite their 420 school places.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch offered ten additional school places to students, taking their 413-strong capacity to 423.

Department for Education figures showed its 588 school places were stretched to facilitate for 596 pupils.

Crowlands Primary School in London Road, Romford had seven students above its 611 school place capacity.
Drapers’ Brookside Infant School and La Salette Catholic Primary School (Image: Google Maps / Canva) St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in St Marys Lane, Upminster was over capacity by four places, whilst Elm Park Primary School in South End Road had three extra pupils compared to its number of places.
Both Drapers’ Brookside Infant School in Dagnam Park Drive, Harold Hill and La Salette Catholic Primary School in Dunedin Road, Rainham were over capacity by one pupil each.
