The London Fire Brigade was alerted to the emergency in River Road with the first of ten calls just after 2pm this afternoon (May 2).

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from stations across East Ham, Plaistow and Dagenham were dispatched to the scene.

Several ISO containers and part of a boxed van were found to be on fire.

The fire was tackled from above using a 32-metre turntable ladder and hose reels.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and is under investigation.

A spokesperson for the brigade said: “We were called at 14.02 today to reports of a fire on River Road in Barking.

“The Brigade’s Control Officers received more than 10 calls about the fire. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow and Dagenham fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
