The Early May Bank Holiday is approaching and with it, one hopes, continued good weather.
We have compiled nine pubs in and around Highgate that have a beer garden to sit in – five in Highgate itself and four not far away!

Named as one of the top 10 gastropubs in the country, it has been nominated in the Greater London region of the National Pub & Bar Awards 2025, which will be held in June.
The Gatehouse

With the feel of a proper local village pub, The Gatehouse in North Road not only has a beer garden but also London’s highest theatre, situated upstairs.

This dog-friendly pub in Highgate Hill is close to Archway tube station and has a beer garden and a big high definition TV screen.
The Duke of St Albans
The Duke of St Albans, on the corner of Highgate Road and Swain’s Lane, has a tiny terrace, a tiny nook and tables around the side (Image: Google)
At the bottom of Highgate West Hill, the historic Duke is billed as a “muddy boots” pub given its location on the edge of Hampstead Heath.
It has a small terrace, tables around the side of the pub and a little nook with a couple of small tables and chairs. If it’s sunny and packed, you can stand outside with everyone else.
The Southampton Arms

This independent ale and cider house near Hampstead Heath opens at midday every day and has a lovely little garden at the back that gets very busy any time of year.
The Vine

This big old pub near Kentish Town is set back from the road with a fairly large front garden, numerous inside rooms and a gastropub menu.
