The contract, which began on February 24, 2025, promises to benefit both residents and the environment.
The contractor, Krinkels, has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality from the first year of the contract.
This aligns with Wandsworth’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Recycling facilities in parks, an optional feature in the tender, will also be implemented.
In addition, Krinkels will introduce Hydrotreated-Vegetable-Oil (HVO), a stable, renewable, sustainable, and high-quality direct diesel replacement that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 per cent.
Councillor Judi Gasser, cabinet member for environment, said: “As a council, we are committed to supporting our residents, our staff, and our environment.
“Renewing contracts is a key way in which we’re able to keep moving with the times and ensuring that our partners and service providers are aligned with us in our vision for a greener, fairer Wandsworth.
“This decision not only ensures our parks will remain beautifully maintained but also introduces a more sustainable fleet, recycling options for residents, and guarantees that staff receive fair wages.
“It’s a win for everyone, and we are delivering this while maintaining the lowest council tax in the country.
“We look forward to seeing the positive impact this will bring to our community.”
Krinkels has committed to paying the Real Living Wage, ensuring fair pay for all staff involved in maintaining Wandsworth’s green spaces.
This pledge aligns with the council’s dedication to supporting local employment and promoting fair work practices across the borough.
Niko Mardushaj, operations director at Continental, said: “We’re proud to continue our partnership with Wandsworth Council to create a cleaner, greener future for the borough while supporting local employment.”
Through this contract, the council reaffirms its commitment to sustainable, high-quality public spaces, supporting both local employment and a cleaner, greener future for Wandsworth.
