The Metropolitan Police were alerted to the incident involving a car and pedestrian in New Road at 8.18pm on April 25.
Officers were dispatched to the scene with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, where a 45-year-old man was found suffering serious injuries.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for the Met has confirmed that his injuries are potentially life-changing, if not life-threatening at this stage.
The crash is under investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, with work underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesperson said: “Police were called to New Road, RM13 at 20:18hrs on Friday, 25 April following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
“Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated a 45-year-old man for serious injuries before taking them to hospital.

“The man suffered from life-changing/threatening injuries and they currently remain in hospital.”
