New figures have been published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government showing the most and least deprived areas of every borough in England.
According to the data for Croydon, University Hospital & Queen’s Road is the most deprived area in the borough, ranking in the top one per cent across the country for highest levels of deprivation.
Out of the 33,755 neighbourhoods in England that fall into this most deprived group, University Hospital & Queen’s Road is the 284th most deprived nationally.
Croydon has several neighbourhoods in this highly deprived group, including New Addington South, Thornton Heath Central, and New Addington North.
At the same time, the borough also contains areas in the least deprived 10 per cent, highlighting stark contrasts in living conditions.
The score for each area is calculated based on factors including income, employment, education, crime, and barriers to housing and services.
Once all 33,755 neighbourhoods in England are ranked, they are divided into 10 groups called deciles, where the first decile includes the 33,375 most deprived neighbourhoods and so on.
