A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “We have a dedicated team who are responsible for policing in Lewisham Town Centre.
“The team is acutely aware of the issues that matter most to residents and businesses in the area and are committed to focusing resources on tackling these crimes.
“We work closely with retailers, the community and partners to achieve this.
“Retail theft, which can sometimes escalate to staff being assaulted, is one area where we’ve been targeting offenders.
“Our officers carry out regular patrols in the town centre but also work with specialist teams to target offenders.”
They added: “Violent crime and sexual offending are understandably a concern for residents and one that remains a priority for us to tackle.
“Alongside teams of specialist detectives based on the South East Command Unit, we are also supported by experienced pan-London units when we need them.
“We dedicate resources to removing high-harm offenders from the streets of Lewisham and are actively applying for Criminal Behaviour Orders where appropriate to reduce further offending.
“However, we always need the help of the public.
“If you have any information about criminality, no matter how insignificant you think it is, we would ask you to get in touch.
“You can speak to your local safer neighbourhoods’ team, dial 101 or always call 999 in an emergency.”
