The Lions were just edged out of the play-offs last term, finishing eighth and two points off sixth-placed Bristol City.
The south London outfit recovered from a poor start to the campaign under Neil Harris’ stewardship to a last-minute top-six push under Alex Neil, where they won eight of their last 13 games to put themselves in serious contention.
However, defeats to their promotion rivals – Bristol City, Leeds United, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley – ensured that they would remain in the second tier for a ninth straight year.
Now, Neil gets his feet under the table properly at The Den as he prepares for his first full season in charge.
