The 21-year-old man charged with carrying out a series of attacks on property linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been remanded in custody.
A judge at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded Roman Lavrynovych, a Ukrainian national, ahead of a hearing on June 6 at the Old Bailey in London.
The Metropolitan Police on Thursday said it had charged Lavrynovych with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life.
The charges relate to incidents in north London in the past week, including a fire at Starmer’s family home in Kentish Town on Monday and an earlier car fire on the same street.
The court was told on Friday that Lavrynovych — who stood impassively throughout much of the proceedings, with his hands crossed — had no fixed address in the UK and had been staying with relatives in Sydenham, south-east London, at the place where he was arrested on Tuesday night.
Lavrynovych spoke only to confirm his identity and had proceedings translated for him by a Ukrainian interpreter. He was denied bail.
