On February 13, Ellian Sackey experienced what is believed to be a cardiac arrest in her bathroom.
She lived with her three children, ages 12, 16 and 24.
Isaac Briku, Ellian’s 24-year-old son, told the News Shopper: “I had left the house that day to get a haircut after having spoken to my mum earlier in the day.
“And, when I arrived home to open the door, my little brother told me that mum was on the floor in the bathroom.
“So, we called the ambulance, and they tried for two hours to help once they arrived.
“Soon, they said there’s nothing they could do as she had probably suffered a cardiac arrest.”
Ellian’s death certificate will be sent to the family later this week, which will confirm her cause of death.
He said the death “very sudden and completely unexpected” as Ellian was only 50 years old and there were no indications that this could happen.
He added: “She was healthy her whole life, and we never imagined we would lose her so soon.”
Isaac described his mother as “fun, caring, and loving”, who adored her children.
According to Isaac, the last conversation he and his mother had was about grandchildren and future generations of their family.
Isaac and his family are now appealing to the community to donate to their GoFundMe to help with several things after the death left him and his siblings “heartbroken and unprepared”.
He said: “Unfortunately, with this unexpected passing, we are struggling to cover funeral expenses while also figuring out how to take care of ourselves in her absence.
“Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward funeral and burial costs and helping us stay on our feet as we navigate this loss.”
Isaac has had to step up and look after his siblings, with the only support he’s getting coming from other family members who visit them.
Currently, Isaac is not working, making the situation a lot more difficult.
Isaac aims to raise £20,000 for his mother.
As of March 4, he’s raised £2,647, only 13 per cent of the goal.
He added: “It’s been very hard.
“We just need as much help as possible.”
You can donate to Isaac and his family on the GoFundMe website.
