LA Café, located opposite Sutton station, is renowned for winning multiple awards, boasting a 5-star rating on Google with over 1,500 reviews, and straying from the typical “greasy spoon” café.
Gary Eats, a UK-based food critic and YouTube personality known for his honest and approachable restaurant reviews, visited LA Café and praised it for its “exceptional cooking” and “quality, quality, quality all round”.
Owner Ankur Baria previously said that he no longer sees LA Café as a café, despite its name, and prefers to give it the title of bistro.

This was a sentiment shared by Gary Eats, who said it’s “more of a bistro than a café”.
In the book, he writes that the café’s modern, bright interior and outdoor seating make it a “lovely spot on a summer morning,” and that the menu “lovingly describes” dishes that quickly go from “ordinary” to “outstanding.”
He praised the café’s signature breakfast, which includes pork sausages, streaky bacon, roasted vine tomatoes, and French butter scrambled eggs topped with white truffle sauce.
He called the eggs “rich with butter, creamy and smooth with the earthy undertone of truffle.”
He added: “The breakfast is genuinely a picture on a plate.”
Gary Eats also sampled the 28-day-aged short rib from the specials board, describing it as “slow-cooked to fall apart” with “gelatinous tenderness” and a “fantastic combination packed with flavour”.
He added: “Perhaps the most outrageous bit is the way all the meat juices and gravy soaked down into the greens.
“Sublime.”
Summing up his visit, he said: “I’m not sure LA Café does anything normally.
“This is exceptional cooking, taking top quality ingredients and elevating them.
“This food isn’t just piled on the plate but arranged with a chef’s eye.”
Ankur Baria said he was “over the moon” with the recognition, adding: “We might not have a Michelin star (yet), but we’ve got something just as good – our amazing customers.
“Thank you for making La Café Sutton the little café that could.”
