Coolings Garden Centre has called on its customers to help “Keep Coolings Blooming” this spring.
Essential gas works are set to restrict access to the centre during its busiest time of year.
The roadworks along Rushmore Hill, the main access route, have posed a significant challenge to trading during the peak spring months, when most of Coolings’ annual income is made.
Despite this, Coolings remains fully open, and the team is urging customers not to be deterred by the diversion signs.
Dwayne Ross, managing director, said: “We’ve weathered many storms over the years—from the oil crisis to COVID—but this spring’s road closure is unlike anything we’ve faced before.
“As an employee ownership trust, this isn’t about shareholder profits.
“It’s about protecting the jobs and livelihoods of nearly 200 local people who are the backbone of Coolings.”
Coolings grows the majority of its plants on-site, meaning the glasshouses are already bursting with homegrown plants ready for spring gardens.
From vibrant bedding plants to vegetable plugs, shrubs, and hanging baskets, everything is ready and waiting—it just needs customers to come and buy it.
Coolings has now received welcome news that SGN has agreed to pause works from May 16 to July 1, reopening the road completely during that crucial late-spring period.
The team is grateful for this concession, which offers a vital lifeline—though the disruption before and after this window still poses a major financial challenge.
The garden centre’s campaign—Help Keep Coolings Blooming—asks customers to continue visiting, shopping in-store, and spreading the word that Coolings is very much open for business.
Mr Ross added: “Every visit, every plant, every piece of cake in our café really will make a difference.
“We’ve already had such heartening support from our community, and now we’re asking for just a little more—to help us keep blooming.”
To support the campaign, customers can visit the Coolings Rushmore Hill and Coolings Lifestyle centres as usual, shop online, and follow and share updates on Coolings’ social media channels.
