Emergency services were called to John Harrison Way in Greenwich yesterday (July 5) at around 4:50am, after a crash involving a car and a pedestrian.
A 46-year-old woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital.
The force has confirmed that her injuries have been assessed as life-changing.
A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and currently remains in police custody.
Police are continuing to make enquiries into the incident.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Around 04:50hrs on Saturday, 5 July, officers attended John Harrison Way, SE10, alongside the London Ambulance Service following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
“A 46-year-old woman was treated at the scene by paramedics. She was taken to hospital, where her injuries were assessed as life-changing.
“A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He was taken into police custody, where he remains.
