Ivory Coast were narrow winners in top Group F as they recorded the same points and goal difference as runners-up Cameroon, whom they pipped by scoring five goals to Indomitable Lions’ four.
In doing so, they downed Gabon in a thriller, overturning a two-goal deficit to clinch a 3-2 victory in injury time.
The reigning AFCON champions are out to claim a fourth title in the competition, and could take a step towards that end here.
Burkina Faso, runners-up in Group E, stand in their way. Les Etalons enjoyed a productive group stage, with its only blight being a narrow 1-0 defeat by title hopefuls Algeria.
They can take heart, however, from comfortable defeats of Sudan and Equatorial Guinea.
Burkina Faso can be confident of upsetting the Ivory Coast, but they will have their work cut out for them with first-choice ‘keeper Herve Koffi set to miss out through injury.

Ivory Coast vs Burkina Faso team news
Emerse Fae will have a full complement to pick from as he names his Ivory Coast side.
Manchester United’s Amad Diallo remains the star of the show up top, and he could start alongside the likes of Evann Guessand and Yan Diomande after the trio were all rested for Ivory Coast’s final group stage outing against Gabon.

Burkina Faso coach Brama Traore has picked up a couple of casualties during this AFCON campaign.
Chief among them is Angers goalkeeper Koffi, who was withdrawn midway through the defeat of Sudan with a thigh injury. He is considered a doubt for this match, with Kilian Nikiema of Den Haag in line to replace him.
Cyriaque Irie might also be unavailable, with an injury suspected to have been the inspiration for the 20-year-old’s withdrawal against Sudan.
Ivory Coast vs Burkina Faso prediction
The AFCON round of 16 has delivered plenty of intriguing matchups so far, and this one will be no different.
These are two evenly matched teams, though Ivory Coast seem to edge it on paper with a talented front line decorated with Premier League stars.
They faced a markedly competitive group and came out on top of the pile, suggesting they have the minerals to make a deep run in this competition.
Burkina Faso, meanwhile, fell short in their tougher group stage tests. With two important players set to miss out through injury, they will be starting on the back foot.
Head to head (h2h) history and results
These two sides have met at AFCON twice before, but never in the knockout stage. They shared a group in 2010 and 2012, with their first meeting ending even and the Ivory Coast taking the spoils in the second.
