Kamaru Usman will return to the ring tonight for the first time since 2023 as he faces Joaquin Buckley in the octagon.
The former UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru has not entered a fight since losing by split decision to Khamzat Chimaev two years ago, but will make a dramatic return on Sunday.
He has not chosen an easy opponent in Buckley, who is undefeated in six welterweight bouts, with his full career record sitting at 21-6.
The 31-year-old St Louis native is now eleven years into his career and has not tasted defeat since December 2022. His last fight came as he headlined UFC on ESPN 63, downing Colby Covington via a third-round TKO.
Usman announced on his hiatus after suffering a three-fight losing run, twice falling to Leon Edwards, once by decision and once by knockout, before the Chimaev defeat.
He has played down reports that he could retire following tonight’s fight, already setting his sights on a meeting with Belal Muhammad.
The extended break has been helpful for Usman, though, as he claims to have rectified a nagging injury in the interim.
The bout will be held at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, with a star-studded undercard, featuring the likes of Rose Namajunas, Miranda Maverick, Edmen Shahbazyan, and Andre Petroski.
