The Gunners are 7-1 up from the first leg of the last-16 tie, meaning PSV have to win by seven clear goals to pull off what could only be described as a footballing miracle.
They did bounce back from last week’s hammering with a much needed victory over Heerenveen at the weekend, but that was only their second win in eight games across all competition as Peter Bosz’s side face risk ending the season trophyless having already been knocked out of the KNVB Cup.
Arsenal, too, could very well finish the campaign without lifting any silverware as Mikel Arteta’s side now trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by 15 points following Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United.
As was the case before the first leg in Eindhoven, the Champions League has taken on added importance for the Gunners as it’s their only realistic hope of ending the five-year wait for a major trophy.
Barring a collapse of epic proportions, Arsenal will be among the final eight teams left in Europe’s elite club competition and can look forward to a quarter-final tie against Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid next month.
