The final draft of the Romford Masterplan will be reviewed by Havering Council’s place overview and scrutiny sub committee at a meeting on Thursday (March 6).
As it is the only item on the agenda, the entire meeting will focus on the masterplan – and how it will shape the development of Romford over the next 15 to 20 years.
Key points of the draft document include opening up the River Rom so it is more visible throughout the town centre, “reinforcing the importance” of Romford Market, and redeveloping the Brewery to create a new entrance to Romford station.
The masterplan has undergone years of development, including public consultations in both 2019 and 2024.

Feedback from last year’s public engagement will also be discussed at the scrutiny meeting tomorrow – issues were raised about parking, culture and safety.
According to the meeting’s agenda document, amendments in response to this feedback will be reviewed, such as a focus on making the town centre “as inclusive and safe as possible for all, including women and girls”.
Following the discussions tomorrow, Havering’s cabinet is expected to adopt the masterplan at its meeting the following week (March 12).
