Harewood Road Post Office, which sits inside the Pilgrims Hatch Co-op, will shut on May 8 at 1pm.

The closure decision comes after the branch’s operator resigned and the premises was withdrawn from Post Office use.

A spokesperson for the Post Office has confirmed that – following a review of the local network demand – the Harewood Road branch will not be replaced.

The spokesperson said: “We apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience caused by the closure of this branch.

“We have undertaken a comprehensive review of the network to ensure it meets evolving customer needs in a very challenging economic climate.

“This review examined the network at a very detailed, local level, analysing customer demand and accessibility of Post Office services.

“Consequently, we are not looking to replace Harewood Road Post Office at this time.”

Nearby branches include the Pilgrims Hatch Post Office, which is 0.7 miles away, and the Ongar Road Post Office, which is 0.8 miles away.
