The German coach enjoyed a successful Three Lions bow on Friday evening as goals from Myles Lewis-Skelly and Harry Kane earned a routine 2-0 win over Albania in the first instalment of a home qualifying double-header for the 2026 World Cup.
Having raised a few eyebrows with his first squad selection, Tuchel was able to hand debuts to both Lewis-Skelly and Dan Burn while taking a look at the likes of Reece James, Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson.
England will be expected to follow up that opening win by claiming another comfortable three points against a Latvia side that won their opening qualification match by beating Andorra away from home, but are currently ranked at 140th in FIFA’s rankings.
The incentive for the winner is control of Group K, even if qualification is still in its infancy.

Anthony Gordon has now returned to Newcastle after suffering a hip issue in the closing moments of England’s win over Albania, so will play no part against Latvia. In his absence, and given the underwhelming performances of Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden, Jarrod Bowen could come in and Eberechi Eze will be pushing for minutes.
Morgan Gibbs-White and Jarell Quansah will hope to take part in the matchday squad having been among the trio left out on Friday, along with Aaron Ramsdale. “Morgan is an amazing character,” Tuchel said of Nottingham Forest midfielder Gibbs-White on Sunday. “He deserves a lot of praise.
“It’s also how we expect it to be because it should be an honour and it should be a privilege to play for England. The egos have to be put aside. That’s what everyone’s doing and Morgan does it in an impressive way.”
Further back, Marc Guehi will be hoping for an opportunity after being overlooked against Albania in favour of debutant Dan Burn. Ezri Konsa was a standout on Friday, so should keep his place.
Myles Lewis-Skelly should also be handed another start after a fine, goalscoring first game in an England shirt.

The Albania game was widely regarded as the tougher test of Tuchel’s opening matches in charge. With England coming through that with relative ease, it bodes well for the visit of Latvia, who simply don’t possess nearly enough quality in their ranks to pose a threat.
Even if Tuchel opts to rotate his squad, England should win this comfortably, extending their perfect record under the German.
