The incident happened in Lawson Road near Moorfield Road shortly after 4.30pm yesterday (March 9).
Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and a man in his 30s was taken to hospital for treatment.
His injuries are thought not to be life-threatening.
A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody.
Detective Inspector Mike Herrick, of North Area Local Investigations who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a horrific attack in broad daylight, which we know has shocked the local community in Enfield.
“Officers were quickly on the scene and were able to immediately arrest a man who remains in custody.
“Residents and visitors to the area will have noticed an increased police presence while this investigation remains ongoing.
“I would encourage anyone within the community who has any concerns to speak to our officers who will be in the area over the coming days.
“I encourage anyone who has information but may not have contacted police yet to get in touch and assist with this investigation.”
