Dunloe Street, near Haggerston School, was closed from 6.34pm on Thursday (December 18) after shots were reportedly heard in the area.
Officers attended the scene but there were no traces of suspects and no reported injuries.
A resident, who wishes to not be named, came home at around 11.30pm on Thursday to find it cordoned off by the police.
She said: “Police weren’t telling us what happened.
“I came back just as they were putting everything out so I had no idea what was going on.
“It was a bit weird that we didn’t hear anything.”

The cordon was then reportedly removed at around 7pm yesterday (December 19).
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “On Thursday, 18 December at 18:34hrs police were called after gunshots were reportedly heard on Dunloe Street, Haggerston.
“Officers attended the scene but there was no trace of any suspects and no reported injuries.
“No arrests have been made at this stage. An investigation is underway and anyone with information that may assist police is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 6098/18Dec.”
